Privacy Policy
Car Alpha respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have. Our platform is designed to minimize data collection — we do not require user accounts, and our core tools work without collecting personal information.
Effective Date: February 15, 2026 | Last Updated: February 15, 2026
Information We Collect
Information You Provide Voluntarily: If you contact us via our contact form or email, we collect the information you submit such as your name and email address. We do not require user registration to use any of our tools.
VIN Data: When you use our VIN decoder or recall checker, the VIN you enter is sent directly to the NHTSA API from your browser. We do not store, log, or retain the VINs you look up on our servers.
VIN Scanner: Our camera-based VIN scanner runs entirely in your browser using client-side OCR. No images, video frames, or camera data are transmitted to our servers or any third party.
Automatically Collected Data: Like most websites, we collect standard technical information through server logs and analytics tools, including IP addresses, browser type, operating system, referring URLs, pages visited, and timestamps. This data is used in aggregate for site performance analysis and is not linked to individual identities.
How We Use Your Information
We use the limited information we collect for the following purposes:
- To respond to your inquiries and support requests
- To analyze aggregate site usage and improve platform performance
- To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or security incidents
- To comply with legal obligations
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.
Cookies & Tracking Technologies
Car Alpha uses cookies and similar technologies for site functionality, analytics, and to support our affiliate partnerships. For detailed information about the cookies we use and how to manage them, please see our Cookie Policy.
We use analytics tools to understand how visitors interact with our site. These tools may collect information such as pages visited, time on site, and general geographic region. This data is used in aggregate and is not used to identify individual users.
Third-Party Services & Affiliate Partners
Our site contains links to third-party services including insurance comparison tools, warranty providers, auto loan companies, and other affiliate partners. When you click an affiliate link and leave Car Alpha, your interaction with that third-party site is governed by their privacy policy, not ours.
Affiliate partners may use cookies or tracking pixels to attribute referrals. See our Affiliate Disclosure for the full list of partner categories.
We also use the NHTSA API for VIN decoding and recall data. These API calls are made directly from your browser to NHTSA servers and are subject to NHTSA's privacy policy.
Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect the limited information we collect. Our site is served over HTTPS, and our infrastructure is hosted on secure, managed platforms. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Data Retention
We retain contact form submissions and email correspondence for as long as necessary to respond to your inquiry and for our legitimate business records. Aggregate analytics data is retained for up to 26 months. We do not retain VINs, camera data, or any user-specific vehicle lookup history.
Your Rights & Choices
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Request access to the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction or deletion of your personal data
- Object to or restrict certain processing of your data
- Opt out of cookies and tracking technologies via your browser settings
California Residents: Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), you have additional rights regarding your personal information. Car Alpha does not sell personal information. To exercise any privacy rights, contact us at info@caralpha.com.
Children's Privacy
Car Alpha is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at info@caralpha.com and we will promptly delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable laws. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
